The Indian two-wheeler market is full of great scooters that can offer perfect solution to the daily commuting needs. These modern scooters offer the perfect blend of trendy styling, easy handling and great mileage to suffice the requirements of the Indian two-wheeler buyers when daily commuting is concerned. When modern Indian scooter segment comes into the question, Honda has a very strong hold on this space. The Japanese auto major offers a number of highly preferred two-wheeler models in the Indian market. While one can’t go wrong with any of the highly popular Honda scooters, it is always good to compare and choose the one that best fits one’s preference and requirements. Thus, here we are comparing two of the very popular 110 cc two-wheeler models from the house of Honda, the Dio and the Activa.
Take a look at how these two Honda scooter siblings compete in the same Indian two-wheeler segment, and what all they have to offer before you take your pick:
Honda Dio Vs Honda Activa 3G
The Dio is a very attractive looking scooter that offers flamboyant design as compared to other scooter models in its class. It is also practical and takes care of the utility part as well. The Dio flaunts a sleek plastic body with an elegant, stylish and youthful appeal to fit the style conscious lot. It comes with a solid and sturdy build quality which is one of its greatest qualities. It is certainly meant for the contemporary Indian commuters who also wish to keep using their machines for many years.
The Activa on the other hand, dons a more traditional scooter design that not very adventurous, but stylish and attractive enough. This scooter focuses more on practicality than style quotient. However, it is very much suitable for the modern two-wheeler buyers of India and comes with a well sculpted body and many striking styling elements to please the buyers. This scooter also offers a very solid and sturdy construction for longevity.
The Dio flaunts a very smart instrument console, but it still gets analogue dials and not digital. All dials and meters are nicely design and offer high visual clarity with very prominent indicators.
The Activa’s instrument panel is also nicely designed and very clear to read. It offers displays to convey all the vital details clearly. It also offers an odometer, low engine oil and low fuel indicators, which come with prominent indicators to be read very easily.
Engine and Gearbox
The Honda Dio features a 109 cc air-cooled, 4-stroke, single cylinder OHC Dream Mileage mill that is paired with a V-matic automatic transmission. The engine offers a max power output of 8 Bhp at 7500 rpm and a top torque of 8.74 nm at 5500 rpm. It offers a reliable performance.
The Honda Activa 3G also gets powered by the 109 cc Dream Mileage engine and offers the identical power figures of 8 Bhp at 7500 rpm as that of the Dio, but offers a slightly better torque value of 8.83 nm at 5500 rpm. The motor is again mated to the same v-matic automatic gearbox for smooth and efficient handling.
Acceleration & Top Speed
The Dio 110 can sprint from standstill to a speed level of 60 km per hour in 10.8 seconds, which is quite good. The scooter offers a top speed of 78 km per hour which is impressive, not outstanding among its rivals in the market.
The Activa 3G accelerates a bit better than the Dio and runs from 0 to 60 km per hour in 10.2 seconds. It offers a highly respectable top speed of at 82 km per hour, while some riders have claimed that the scooter can actually offer an amazing top speed of around 90 km per hour. Thus, the Activa offers very impressive performance and even with heavy luggage and pillion rider offers admirable acceleration.
The Honda Dio 110 offers a fuel efficiency of around 35 to 40 km per liter on the city roads, while offering a mileage of around 45 – 50 km per liter on the highway stretches. The Dio comes with a fuel tank capacity of 6 liters.
The Activa 3G also offers a mileage of around 40 km per liter in the urban riding conditions, while delivering around 50 km per liters when riding on the highways. It comes with a fuel tank capacity of 5.3 liters, which is capable of offering a range of about 240 kms.
The Dio comes with a forward sloping floorboard that is considered to be one of its down sides. It is said to be affecting the ride comfort of tall riders, while also argued to affect the ergonomics of the seating position for taller riders and negatively impact the ride comfort when travelling long distances over around 30 kilometers.
On the other hand, the Activa offers a great comfortable ride. In fact, it is one of the most comfortable scooters in the Indian market. It offers an upright seating position with a wide and comfortable seat for both the rider and the pillion rider. It also offers well-placed footrest for added comfort.
Safety, Braking & Suspension
The Dio offers foot pegs for the rider and pillion to provide better comfort, balance and safety. It is braced with CBS (Combi Brake System), which is an advanced safety feature that ensures even handling and precise braking even at high speed levels. It comes with 130 mm drum brakes for both the front and rear wheels. It gets spring-loaded hydraulic damper suspension for both the ends.
The Activa 3G comes braced with key shutter to protect it from theft, tuff-up tube tyres with double layer insulation with fluid to make them punctures resistant. This scooter also features CBS and 130 mm drum brakes for both the wheels. It also features spring-loaded hydraulic dampers suspension for both the wheels.
Considering the fact that both these Honda scooter models cost almost the same (both cost around Rs. 49,000, while Activa is very slightly costlier than the Dio), the Honda Activa is a better buying option. The Activa is an overall better package with better performance and ride comfort than the Honda Dio. However, if high style quotient is your requirement, then the Dio should be your pick.
