We made a simple but important update to CitySpeek.com this evening. Many of our users are also Twitter users that choose to have their speeks cross-posted to Twitter. When speeks including integrated media were cross posted to twitter, confusion ensued because only the text was available to Twitter users. You might say “check out this funny picture” and your Twitter friends were left wondering what you were talking about.
Starting tonight however, speeks with media that are also cross posted to Twitter contain a linkback to your original speek. This will allow Twitter followers to easily see your integrated pics or video without being left to wonder what you are talking about. You don’t need to do anything different, the link will be added by us before your speek hits Twitter. Speeks without media will not include a link and longer speeks will be truncated on Twitter to make room for the link.
Give this new feature a try and let us know if you have any questions!

CitySpeek is a micro-messaging service that allows you to stay in contact with your friends, co-workers, teammates and customers through an efficient means of communication.
Isn’t that just like Twitter?
No, it is not. For two reasons:
First, on a grand scale the only similarity that CitySpeek shares with Twitter is the 140 character limit for messages (what we call ‘speeks’). CitySpeek offers many features that Twitter does not, including:
- Groups, both open and private
- Integrated pics and video, no leaving the site to view
- Speek by category like “Overheard”, “Question”, “For Sale”, etc.
- Communicate with CitySpeek via IM
- Seamless integration with Flickr
- …and many more
The real reason why CitySpeek is not like Twitter is our positioning. We developed CitySpeek for the other hundreds of millions of internet users that don’t use Twitter. We created CitySpeek for groups like your city league softball team, your church or the Saturday morning coffee group at the local café. And we don’t stop there. If you own that little café or run the Parks & Rec department where the softball team plays, why not use CitySpeek to communicate with those groups? We make it easy and efficient to do so.
