CitySpeek newsletter: Twitter is down edition

June 15th, 2009

In this issue:

A Special invitation related to Twitter
CitySpeek cross posting to Twitter
CitySpeek iPod winner
New groups

We know that many CitySpeek members are also Twitter users. On Tuesday June 16th at 2pm PST, Twitter will go offline for 1 hour of maintenance. Why not use that time to come build your network on CitySpeek and take a few of our features for a test drive? Accept friend requests, join a group or post a picture. We promise not to get mad if you go back to Twitter after their maintenance.

Speaking of Twitter, don’t forget that you can have your speeks posted to your Twitter account as well. To enable this feature: Log into CitySpeek, click “Settings,” select “Social Network Settings” from the drop down, enter your Twitter credentials and make sure to check  “Send messages to my twitter.com account” before clicking SAVE CHANGES. Imagine how powerful this feature is if you use CitySpeek with an IM account!

A few months back, a loyal CitySpeek user approached us about donating a prize to a fitness challenge that was utilizing a CitySpeek group to keep each other motivated. Of course we said yes and offered a new iPod Nano to the user that logged the most days with a speek in their private group. The challenge is over and the lucky winner is CitySpeek user @Josh (http://www.cityspeek.com/profile/josh). If you are interested in running a similar contest, let us know by emailing support@cityspeek.com.

CitySpeek adds new groups almost daily. Some of the newest groups include: @beer, @Overheard in PDX and @Obama Followers.  To sell all groups, click through to http://www.cityspeek.com/groups.

That’s all for now, thanks for your support of CitySpeek.com!

Using CitySpeek on the Go

March 6th, 2009

Many of you have requested mobile access to CitySpeek and we’d like to let you know that we are hard at work on mobile applications for a variety of platforms. In the meantime, there is another mobile option available right now: Instant Messaging on your cell phone.

CitySpeek is unique by being integrated with most popular instant message (IM) providers. If you are not yet an IM user, know that if you have an email address from Gmail or Yahoo (just to name a few), you also have an IM account. When on your computer you can simply post and receive speeks via IM, just like you would with any other contact. But did you know that most IM services also have mobile phone applications? Specifically, both the iPhone and Blackberry’s have free, easy to use applications.

Using the cell phone and IM account you already have, you can ’speek’ on the go! To get started, visit your  SETTINGS and select MY INSTANT MESENGER. From there, let us know what your IM username is and then add the displayed CitySpeek contact information to your IM account. Then in EMAIL NOTIFICATION, let us know if you’d like to receive messages via IM. If you’d like, you can still post to CitySpeek via IM without also receiving messages.

Give CitySpeek a try next time you are out and about. We know its not the ideal solution so we promise to have our mobile applications finished and tested as soon as possible!
